Richard John Cheeseman Sr.

Richard John Cheeseman Sr., 71 years old, resident of Swedesboro, NJ (formerly Carney’s Point and Pedricktown) passed away suddenly on June 23, 2014 in Wilmington, Delaware. Richard was born on May 1, 1943 to parents Willard Franklin Cheeseman and Frances Cullen Cheeseman (Smith). He was a 1966 graduate of The Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and Science, earning a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy. He immediately went to work as a pharmacist and owner of Cheeseman’s Pharmacy in Penns Grove, NJ where he worked side by side with his father for many years. In 1983 he became employed by Rite Aid Pharmacy in Penns Grove, NJ and then spent over 25 years at The Memorial Hospital of Salem County where he ended his career in April of 2013. Richard enjoyed being a dedicated father and husband and also enjoyed donating his time to the Penns Grove Carney’s Point Pedricktown Little League where he served as president for several years. He also served six years on the Penns Grove Carney’s Point Regional School District Board of Education. Most recently, Richard enjoyed the simple pleasures of life with his new bride, Barbara Jordan Ragonese, and their combined families. He was an active member of Clonmell United Methodist Church, participating and thoroughly enjoying the choir while also taking on any role within the church where he felt he could lend a helping hand. He also belonged to senior citizen organizations in Logan Township, NJ and Gibbstown, NJ. Richard is survived by his loving wife Barbara; three sons, Richard Jr. (wife Barbara), Scott (wife Kim) and Matthew (wife Lisa); three step children, Christine, Kenneth (wife Lori) and James (wife Jenn) as well as a combined total of eighteen grandchildren and four great grandchildren. He is also survived by mother-in-law Ruth Jordan, brothers Robert, Willard and Bruce as well as sister Janet. Richard was predeceased by first wife Susan Carol Cheeseman (Steigerwald), father Willard Cheeseman, mother Frances Cheeseman, brother Jay and stepson Greg Ragonese. A service will be held in Richard’s memory at 11 am on Wednesday July 2, 2014 at Clonmell United Methodist Church, 516 W Broad St., Gibbstown, NJ 08027. Family and Friends my attend visitation beginning at 9:30 am. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Clonmell United Methodist Church at the above address.
