Nancy Greaves Andersen

Nancy Greaves Andersen, age 93, of Wilmington, Delaware, peacefully went to be with the Lord on February 9, 2024. Born February 18, 1930, in Chicago, Illinois, Nancy was a beloved daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. Preceding her in death was her husband, James A. Andersen Jr., parents, George H. and Frances Kathryne Greaves, brothers, George, and William, and sister Susan. Also preceding her were daughters-in-law Leslie and Christy Andersen, married to son Thomas Andersen. Nancy is survived by a sister, Alice Carolyn Mather, children James A. Andersen (Marie), Linda Jones (Kyle), Debra Herrman (Donald), Nancy Nuzzolo (John), Cynthia Ford (Matthew), and Thomas S. Andersen, thirteen grandchildren, and thirteen great-grandchildren. Raised in Illinois, she graduated from La Grange High School and attended the University of Illinois, majoring in Home Economics. Together with her husband they settled in Delaware and raised their six children. She was then blessed to welcome her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her love of children extended to her career as a teacher's aide for various schools in the local school districts. Nancy also enjoyed volunteering. She served on the Altar Guild at Grace and Trinity Episcopal churches, the Junior Board of Christiana Hospital, and the Emmanuel Dining Hall’s Ministry of Caring. Her passion for celebrating the beauty of life was reflected in her outstanding and creative flare for style, decorating, and cooking. She enjoyed antiquing, travel, and beach vacations. She kept abreast of current events and her favorite sports teams up until her last days. She leaves behind a legacy of love for all her family and friends. She will be remembered by all for her charm, curiosity, warmth, and keen sense of humor.
