Mary Jane Mesogianes

Mary Jane Mesogianes, a woman deeply committed to her family, faith and friends, passed away on November 27, 2022. She was 76. Always her kids' and grandkids' greatest fan, Mary Jane was known for greeting loved ones with a smile, a hug and an enthusiastic "Hey Sweetie." She hosted many picnics, birthday parties and holiday get-togethers at her home on Lighthouse Road. The holidays were a special time to her as were birthdays. She liked to decorate for the season, collect Santa’s and she was also known, from time to time, to leave voicemails of her singing “Happy Birthday” for those closest to her. Mary Jane was thoughtful and kind and oftentimes preferred to remain in the background quietly supporting and caring for others. She was a homemaker for much of her life. She lovingly and selflessly cared for her parents when they fell ill… even as she was raising three young children of her own. She loved her children and adored her grandchildren and kept all of the notes and artwork they gave her through the years. Her family also knew they could always count on mom-mom/mom to have a fully stocked candy dish or cookie jar ready for sharing. Mary Jane's passions, hobbies and interests were many and diverse. She loved reading, watching cooking shows (but not necessarily cooking), and watching the Philadelphia Eagles. She enjoyed her church bell choir just as much as a trip to the casinos and loved to craft and paint scenes from nature as well. A music lover throughout her entire life, she enjoyed listening to the oldies and attended Doo-Wop concerts when possible… not to mention she was a huge John Denver and Barry Manilow fan, knowing the lyrics and melodies to every song. After raising her family, she returned to work later in life where she enjoyed 14 years serving the community as a pharmacy tech and cashier at the Pennsville SuperFresh. Perhaps most memorable was Mary Jane's quiet faith and strength in the Lord, Jesus Christ. Her firm belief in Jesus brought her family much comfort in her last days. She never feared or doubted what lie ahead of her as she knew she would go to heaven and that she would see everyone in her family again. Meeting Mary Jane in heaven were her parents Walter and Alice Lucas and sister Cindy Sepulveda. She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Nick, her children, Christopher (Rhonda), Wendy (John), and Dr. Mike (Lauren), as well as her grandchildren Elizabeth, Matthew and Nick. Also surviving her are brother Walter (Coleen) Lucas as well as many nieces, nephews and grand-puppies. She is also survived by many friends and her church family at Union Presbyterian Church, where she was a member and elder. She will be deeply missed by everyone she knew, but always remembered. A viewing will be held at the Ashcraft Funeral Home located at 740 South Broadway in Pennsville, NJ on Thursday, December 8 from 11am to 12pm with a service at 12pm. Interment will follow at Lawnside Cemetery in Woodstown, NJ. The family asks that in lieu of flowers contributions be made to the Carneys Point Union Presbyterian Church and/or to the Disabled American Veterans (www.dav.org).
