John Franceschini

John F. Franceschini, age 80 of Carneys Point, NJ passed away on January 28, 2009 at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Wilmington, DE and was the son of the late Nicola and Mary (nee Martell) Franceschini. John graduated from Penns Grove Re-Hi, and retired from DuPont as a lab technician. He was also employed by Carneys Point Township Housing and Zoning Office. He was an active member of the community, his sense of humor and personality made him well known. John coached Babe Ruth and basketball at the YMCA. He was a member of the Penns Grove Liberty Fire Company No. 1 and the Salem County Fire Police Association. He served his country in the Korean War and was a member of VFW Post 8840 and the Walker-Dyer American Legion Post 181. He actively participated in the Penns Grove School District PTA as well as the Band Booster Club. John was a supporter of the Republican Club and Draft Board of Salem County. Because of his Italian heritage, he was a member of the Knights of St. Gabriel, Mother of Grace, and the Washington Club in Penns Grove. John was a board member of the Shell Road Senior Complex in Carneys Point. His passion for education and leadership role was proved by his dedication of over two decades of service to the Penns Grove-Carneys Point Board of Education. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Joann (nee Burke), his son, Nicholas and his wife Vicki of Carneys Point, daughter Grace of Carneys Point, granddaughter Brook of Silver Spring, MD and grandson, Jonathan of Carneys Point. In addition he is survived by sister Jeanette Cane of Oceanview, DE, sister Evelyn Franceschini of Penns Grove, brother Harry Franceschini of Penns Grove and sister Cynthia Chester of Pennsville. A viewing will be held Monday February 2nd from 6 to 9 PM in the Ashcraft Funeral Home, 740 S. Broadway, Pennsville. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 AM Tuesday in St. James RC Church, Penns Grove where a viewing will be held from 10 to 11 AM.
