Betty Jo Manahl

Betty Jo (Griffin) Manahl passed into the arms of our Lord on March 17th, 2026. Born at her parents home in Polkton, NC on January 10, 1936. Betty Jo graduated from Penns Grove High School in 1953, then graduated in 1955 from Wilfred Beauty School in Philadelphia. She was introduced to her husband, John Edwin Manahl, by a mutual friend. They married on March 5, 1955 at her parents home on Cherry Street in Pedricktown, NJ. They moved to Dubuque briefly and returned to live in Penns Grove before settling in Pedricktown. She was involved in many community groups throughout her life. Betty Jo was a Cub Scout Den Mother, was a part of the Democrat Club, the Veterans Association, in the JayCees, and active in her daughter’s Girl Scouting. She was active in her support of her children throughout their various activities and academics. Betty Jo worked for Bonwit Teller’s premier highend salon in Philadelphia, and she and her sister Maxine ran a beauty shop in Pedricktown for many years. Betty Jo was the beloved mom to Kenneth Andrew (Lorrie Grasso), Sharon Lee (Mark Jennings), Lawrence David, Denise Marie, and Douglas John Remper. Adored Mom-Mom of Megan Kyle (Graham) Eggleston, Kelly Laine (Mark) Cagle, Kirsten Lorraine (Daniel) Fredo, Rachel Christine (Jake) Gulick and Craig Allen (Liz) Rempfer, Veronica Leigh Priest, and her 9 great-grandchildren. Betty Jo was an avid bowler for years in a league. She loved to read and listen to music. When she was younger, she took dance and music lessons, was in the choir in high school, and would play the organ at home. She is survived by her sister Julia Maxine (Bill) Catts, her sister-in-laws Rita Mae (James Weber deceased) of Dewey, AZ, Janice Margaret (Morris Blum deceased) of W. Des Moines, IA, and Elizabeth Ann "Betsy" and Joyce Marie (Dennis Wiltfang deceased) both of Waukee, IA, Gerald Kuntz, and many nieces and nephews. Betty Jo was predeceased by her parents, LeRoy Griffin Sr. and Julia Pines (Carpenter), her brothers and sister-in-laws, LeRoy Jr. (Laura Stretch) and Hiram Deberry (Thelma May Simpkins). Her sister-in-laws and brother-in-laws Mary Louise (George Wood) of Birchwood, WI, Dolores Jean (Tom Bridges), Virginia Irene "Ginger" Kuntz, Roger David Manahl, and Robert Paul Manahl. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Betty Jo’s name to their charity of choice, or help someone you know who may be in need. Cremation will be provided by Ashcraft Funeral Home with no burial to follow. A private memorial will be held by the family. Special thanks go to the Pedricktown & Carneys Point Ambulance Squads and the nurses of Bayada.
