Virginia "Ginny" Hamilton

July 29, 1934 - April 22, 2022

Virginia (Ginny) Hamilton was a loving mother, mom-mom, sister, aunt, and friend. She went home to be with Lord surrounded by family on April 22, 2022, at the age of 87. She fought a tough battle with Alzheimer’s. Ginny was born in Penns Grove to John and Ruby Hamilton. She graduated from Penns Grove Re-Hi Class of 1951. Shortly after graduation, she started a family and spent most of her years caring for her family. In addition to living in Penns Grove, she had lived in Pedricktown and Pennsville. In her later years, she worked for Bechtel Construction and retired from PSEG in 1999. “Mom-Mom Gin” was the Best Mom, Mom-Mom and Great Mom-Mom out there. She had a heart of gold and was always known for her beautiful smile. She gave endlessly to her family and friends and was always there with a helping hand. When she wasn’t with family, she was volunteering for organizations in the Salem County area. She started the Healthy Bones program in Pennsville for Seniors and taught as long as her health permitted. Additionally, she was a volunteer working the front desk at the Salem County Hospital, and helped with the Pennsville Historic Society, Meals on Wheels along other organizations. She received many awards and honors for all her volunteering over the years. Ginny had a love for Frank Sinatra, whom she had seen countless of times. Ginny never missed a family sporting event, concert, or dance recital. She loved walking along the beach for hours. You might have seen her walking around Riverview Beach Park as well. Ginny loved to travel and see the world. She also enjoyed dancing, music, baking, bowling, gardening, and shopping for hours. Gin loved going to her exercise classes and doing yoga and tai chi. She was always rooting for the Phillies, Sixers and Eagles. She had many good times laughing with family and friends. Ginny loved her gatherings for monthly luncheons over the years with classmates. Ginny was predeceased by her parents, John and Ruby Hamilton; son, Robert W. Simmens; and brother, John Hamilton, Jr. She is survived by her sister, Janet Messick (Lou) of Pennsville. Ginny’s children are Gary Simmens (Diane) of Egg Harbor Township, NJ, Bonnie Simmens Pierce (Neal) of Woolwich Township, NJ, and Tina Simmens Sayers (Donald) of Middletown, DE. Her grandchildren are Kristofer Simmens (Shanna), Jacqueline Cox (Daniel), Alexander Pierce, Nicole Pierce, Dawson Sayers, and Donald Sayers, Jr. She has 5 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews in the area. The family gives a heart-filled thank you to the wonderful staff at Mullica Gardens. The care and love they gave Ginny over the last 2 ½ years was exceptional. Also, thank you to the Caring Hospice Services Team for their superior expertise and especially to Marie, for her special care and love she gave Ginny. A visitation for family and friends will be held at Ashcraft Funeral Home, 740, S Broadway, Pennsville, Saturday, April 30, 2022 at 9:30 AM – 11:00 AM with a service following at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow at Eglington Cemetery in Clarksboro, NJ. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to honor Ginny at Alzheimer’s Association at Delaware Valley Chapter, 399 Market Street #250, Philadelphia, PA 19106 or online at alz.org. Also, an organization of your choice.
