Thomas A. Healy

April 13, 2022

Thomas A. Healy, a resident of Carneys Point, New Jersey and a former resident of Atlantic City, died suddenly on April 13, 2022. He was 67. Tom attended Our Lady Star of the Sea School and was a former parishioner of Our Lady Star of the Sea parish, where he was an altar server who could always be depended upon to help out at the church with last-minute needs. He spent his youth as a paper route carrier for the Atlantic City Press, as well as being active in Boy Scouts and Explorer Scouts, and he was a member of the Order of the Arrow. He also worked summers at A.L. Roth as an assistant candy maker, as well as at Pantry Pride. During those years, he enjoyed the outdoors, including fishing, hunting, camping and surfing. A 1973 graduate of Holy Spirit High School, Tom attended the College of St. Thomas with plans to become a journalist before being forced to withdraw due to mental health challenges, which he battled for the remainder of his life. He later resided in Salem, New Jersey and worked at The ARC of Salem County thrift store in Salem. Tom enjoyed crafting, painting, thrifting, museum and casino trips, as well as bargaining at flea markets. He also played a mean game of poker. He will be remembered by family and friends for his easy going nature, willingness to help others, and love of food. He was predeceased by parents James J. Healy and Dorothy M. Healy and by two brothers, John F. Healy and Peter J. Healy. He is survived by two brothers, Jim Healy of Gaithersburg, Maryland (Jane) and Stephen Healy of Atlantic City, as well as by nieces, nephews and cousins. Visitation for family and friends will be at Holy Cross Cemetery, 5061 Harding Hwy., Mays Landing, NJ 08330, on April 18, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. and will be followed by Tom’s burial there. Contributions in Tom’s memory may be made to Sisters of Mercy of the Americas, 8403 Colesville Road, Suite 400, Silver Spring, MD 20910, https://www.sistersofmercy.org/donate/.
