Robert L. Hayes

April 11, 1939 - March 27, 2022

Robert (Bob) Hayes passed away peacefully from natural causes on March 27th surrounded by his loving family. Bob grew up in Harrison, OH before graduating from Union College in Barbourville, KY. It was at Union where he met the love of his life, Miriam Taylor Hayes. The couple was happily married for 62 years. Bob worked for the Penns Grove School district for 35 years, initially as a teacher and then as the Business Administrator. Bob then worked as a consultant for the NJ Dept of Education. Bob served on the Carneys Point Township Committee for 2+ terms and as Deputy Mayor for a portion of that time. Bob was a dedicated member of the Emmanuel United Methodist Church and was an active Little League and Babe Ruth coach for many years. After Bob’s retirement, he and Miriam traveled the globe experiencing different cultures. Bob is survived by his wife Miriam, sons Kevin (Sandra) and Kirk, his sister Jan Plumley, and his 5 adoring grandchildren Matthew (Abigail), Rachel, Sebastian, Brandon and David. A viewing will be held at the New Hope Methodist Church, 174 South Broad Street, in Penns Grove, NJ, 08069, on Saturday, April 2nd from 10am-11:30am and the service will follow at 11:30am. The service will be live streamed through the New Hope Methodist Church’s Facebook page and the link is www.facebook.com/newhope247pennsgrove In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Bob’s name to New Hope Methodist Church, 174 South Broad Street, Penns Grove, NJ, 08069.
