Lorraine M. Kite (nee Hahn) Lorraine Kite, age 92, of Pennsville, passed away peacefully at her home, as was her wish, with family by her side, on July 9th, 2016. She was born in Carney’s Point, and predeceased by her parents, F. Orville and Mary (Williamson) Hahn. Lorraine was also predeceased by two brothers, Melvin and Orville V. Hahn. She graduated from Penns Grove Regional High School in 1942, where she was a drum majorette. Lorraine began her working career at the YMCA in Carney’s Point, the Grove Theater and Willis Hardware in Penns Grove. She was a past Adjunct Faculty Member of Salem Community College, where she taught word processing. Lorraine also worked for the Ethyl Corporation, and the DuPont Chambers Works, as a secretary, where she retired in 1996 with over 36 years of service. Her volunteer work was extensive: During World War II, she trained and served in the American Red Cross Ambulance Corps. Lorraine was a Cub Scout Den Leader, Boy Scouts Treasurer, and served on the Board for the Girl Scouts, where she helped establish the first local office. She was a score-keeper for Pennsville Little League, President of the PTA at Central Park School, Pennsville Junior High and Pennsville Memorial High School. She served as a Sunday School Teacher, on the Board of Deacons, and as an Elder for Union Presbyterian Church. She helped start the Penns Grove High School “1940’s Reunion-Those Wonderful Years”, and was secretary and co-chair for the Class of 1942 Reunions. Lorraine helped form, and served as the President of the Women’s Group at the Sakima Country Club. She trained, then worked for the Literacy Volunteers of America, teaching adults to read. She was very active with the Pennsville and Penns Grove/Carneys Point/Oldmans Historical Societies. Lorraine also helped organize, and served as President for AARP Chapter 1483 in Carneys Point. In 2009, she was named as Salem County Woman of the Year, an honor she certainly deserved, and humbly accepted. At the ripe young age of 80, she found her soul mate, Paul G. Fredricks. They had a glorious, loving relationship until his passing in 2010. Lorraine was especially proud of her two grandsons. She loved watching the Phillies, even when they weren’t doing so well. Lorraine is survived by her son, Stan Kite III, his wife Vonnie, and her grandchildren, Bunky and Lee. Viewing will be held from 6 to 8 PM Friday evening July 15th in the Ashcraft Funeral Home, 740 South Broadway in Pennsville. Funeral services will be held 10 AM on Saturday, July 16th, at the Union Presbyterian Church, 254 Shell Rd, Carney’s Point, there will be no viewing or visitation on Saturday. Interment will follow at Lawnside Cemetery.
