Joseph Patrick Jones
October 11, 1952 - May 25, 2022
Joseph Patrick Jones, 69, of Pennsville, passionate educator and beloved husband, dad, brother and uncle, died May 25, 2022, surrounded by his loving family and listening to his favorite songs from Hall and Oates, Led Zeppelin and Joe Walsh. Joe's dedication to education and technology was unsurpassed. A 44-year teacher and technology coordinator at the Penns Grove-Carneys Point Regional School District, he was a pioneer in bringing computers into the classroom and schools. He was especially proud of the Homework Hotline, introduced in the 1980s, and Scratch Day, an event that introduced kids to the joy of coding (he was even invited to speak at a conference at MIT to share his expertise and experience). Joe was born and raised in Philadelphia. In his early years, he had the most beautiful voice in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia and sang at just about every wedding, communion, and funeral in South Philly. In those years he loved vacations to Wildwood, trips to amusement parks (including a yearly visit to Riverview Beach Park in Pennsville with his family via the Wilson Line) and adventures just about anywhere in between. In between choirboy and family man, he went to Philadelphia Community College, then to Glassboro State College (now Rowan University), where he met Wendy, the love of his life. Fate shined on them the day they met because they were the happiest and most devoted of partners. Ever. Joe gave everything he had to his family and his friends and his school community, and we will forever be indebted. Our dad/husband/brother/Uncle Joey is survived by his wife of nearly 48 years (and together for 50), Wendy Elizabeth Eager Jones and two daughters, Meghan Mullin (John) and Sarah Seeman (Ewan), and five grandchildren, Owen, Jack, Carys, Joseph and Benjamin. He is also survived by his adoring sister Margaret and her husband Bob, as well as niece and nephews Hugh J., Liz, Dan and Joe. He was predeceased by his mother, Helen Joan and his dad, Joseph Albert. We invite you to celebrate his life on June 13 from 2-4 p.m. at Ashcraft Funeral Home in Pennsville, NJ. A reception will follow at the Salem County FOP, and all are welcome. We would be honored to see you. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to a scholarship fund for a Penns Grove-Carneys Point High School student planning to attend Salem Community College (please contact Joe's daughter Meg at [email protected] for more information about how to donate) to help with their books and other expenses for higher education. Joe was forever proud of being a product of a community college, and we hope to help some deserving student realize their goals and dreams in a similar way.
