Janet McGinley Scott

July 31, 1931 - April 24, 2015

Janet McGinley Scott left this physical world to join her Lord and Savior on April 24th 2015. She was born in Paterson N.J. on July 31st 1931 to James Alexander and Bertha Ptacek McGinley. She attended elementary school in Deepwater N.J. and graduated from Penns Grove High School, maintaining lifelong friendships, she cherished to the end. Her nursing education was interrupted, when she met and married the love of her life, Samuel Richard Scott. From there, she gladly began a new career as Sam's wife and mother to four daughters and one son. After raising her kids, she went back to school for her LPN where she graduated at the top of her class and served as an inspiration to the much younger nursing students. She worked many years for the former Underwood Hospital in Woodbury, then ending her nursing career, at South Gate Senior Home. Being a caregiver didn't stop with just nursing. One could find Janet running the concession stand for the Penns Grove/Carneys Point Little League, while Sam coached baseball. She volunteered for her church, Meals on Wheels and, even when she lost her sight, she knitted lap blankets for nursing home residents. Janet enjoyed crafts. She loved and was beloved by her fellow members of the Unique Quilters Group of Quinton. We are so blessed to have the beautiful treasures she made. Sadness came into her life when she lost her 12 year old brother, Jimmy, in a tragic car accident, her parents passing, her best friend, Sheila Dougher, then her husband, Sam, in 2002. Hardest for her was the passing of her son, Eric Scott, that left a profound ache in her heart, from which she would never recover. Left to celebrate her life well lived are her daughters, Kathleen (Ken) Grossett, Karen April, Carol Scheibe, Bridget Grimes and daughter-in-law, Rosemarie Scott, her granddaughters, Heather Eldridge, Jennifer Roy, Rachel and Erica Scott and Emily Duran, her great grandchildren, Zachary and Joshua Roy, Michael and Brian Eldridge and Samuel, Stephanie and Fabian Cortez,as well as her good friend and "sister" Patrina Pyatt. A viewing will be held on Thursday from 9:30 to 10:30 AM in the Ashcraft Funeral Home, 47 State St., Penns Grove. A Mass will be celebrated at 11 AM Thursday in the Church of Our Merciful Saviour , 110 E. Maple Ave., Penns Grove. Burial will follow in Eglington Cemetery, East Greenwich. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Heartland Hospice, 190 N. Evergreen Ave., #122, Woodbury, NJ 08096 or the Church of Our Merciful Saviour, 110 E. Maple Ave., Penns Grove, NJ 08069. www.ashcraftfuneralhomes.com
