Darlene deVries

November 3, 1951 - February 12, 2022

Darlene DeVries Age 70 of Pennsville, NJ gained her wings on February 12, 2022. She was survived by her soulmate of 42 years Lynn Hudson, daughters Shawn Smith-Wisher (Rick), and Hallie Hudson (Christina), sister Donna Daniels (Jerry), and brother James DeVries (Anna), special “daughters” Sherry Everest (Vince) and Emily Moilanen (Frank) and “grandchildren” Angel Rodriguez, Mya Everest and Miguel Rodriguez. She is predeceased by her parents Virgie and Robert DeVries, sisters Carole Serra, Virgie Geary (John), and brother Robert DeVries Jr. Darlene was a lifelong Salem county resident. She began as a newspaper carrier in 1973 for Today’s Sunbeam (South Jersey Times) 7 days a week as well as various other newspapers until her health finally forced her to retire in 2016. No matter rain, snow, hurricane or flood she made sure her customers were always happy with her service and had their paper in time for the morning coffee. Her highest calling was being a mother. She was “Mom” to anyone she ever met and always went above and beyond for her children. Whether it be friends, family, or stray animals she always took in anyone who needed a home. She always said her family meant everything to her. Darlene’s biggest passion was cooking and baking. No one could ever leave her house hungry. She was a certified cake decorator since 1980 and her food was always perfect. Her other passions were animals, gardening (especially flowers), music (singing and dancing), fishing, collecting antiques, puzzles and doing crafts. She especially looked forward to taking trips with her family especially down the shore. Her favorite place to be was near the ocean. All family and friends are welcome to attend a Celebration of Life Memorial Luncheon on March 5, 2022 at 12:00 p.m. at Mid Atlantic Center 375 S. Broadway, Pennsville, NJ 08070 In lieu of flowers the family ask to cook and bring your favorite dish or dessert for all to enjoy the way Mom always did.
