November 6, 1917 - February 6, 2015
Charles "Bus" William Frederick Biehl of Golf Manor, New Jersey passed away on Friday February 6, 2015. He was 97 years old. Charlie was born in Salem, New Jersey on November 6, 1917 to the late Edith (Fryer) and Charles Biehl. His wife Cathrine Kenny Biehl, whom he married on December 31, 1944, precedes him. After graduating as a member of the 1935 class of Salem High School, Charlie continued his education at the Pennsylvania Military Academy now known as Widener University. He retired from DuPont with more than 40 years of service in the Freon laboratory. An extreme athlete before his time, accompanied by a friend in a boat next to him, Charlie swam across the Delaware River at age 16 just to see if he could. He loved golf and bowling. In the 1950s, his enthusiasm for golf influenced his decision to move into a house that was being built near the golf course. Years later, he took great pride in the fact that he and his father were able to build a two -car garage and numerous enhancements to the house together. In the mid to late 1960s, he coached various sports around the Carneys Point YMCA, which included the youth football, basketball and Little League baseball. Coach Biehl led many of his Little League baseball teams to the All Stars. His daily routine always involved reading three newspapers, and watching and following statistics on the Phillies and Eagles faithfully. Some of his most cherished memories included sharing many summers with his family at the Jersey Shore. Most importantly, Charlie was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He is survived by his three children Charles, Amy (Michael), and Jon; his four grandchildren Scott (Jennifer), Jennifer, Joshua, and Ashley (Bryan); and great-grandchildren Cole, Brayden, Christian, Camdyn. In high spirits until the end, Charles broke into a song the night before his passing. He will be remembered for his wisdom, style, determination, and sense of humor. A viewing will be held from 10:30 AM to 12 PM on Tuesday February 10th in the Ashcraft Funeral Home, 47 State Street, Penns Grove followed by a funeral service at 12 PM. Interment will be in St. George’s Cemetery, Pennsville.
