Alexander J Cooker, 78, of Carneys Point, NJ passed away peacefully at Salem County Medical Center on October 23rd 2021. Growing up on a farm, Alex was a farmer at heart. He worked on the family farm while attending Glassboro State College. After earning his teaching degree, he felt it was his duty to enlist in the U.S Army. He attended O.C.S (Officer Candidate School) at Fort Benning, GA. He served one year active duty in Đắk Tô, Vietnam. as 2nd Lieutenant and was later promoted to 1st Lieutenant. Upon his return from Vietnam, he assumed position of science teacher at Penns Grove High School, with 30 years of service. In between teaching, he coached basketball, soccer, and even found time to earn extra money as an umpire with the Delaware Umpire Association. Alex always found time for his family. He was a loving, devoted husband and father. He particularly enjoyed visiting his many aunts and uncles, as well as attending many large family gatherings. Alex enjoyed a 20 year retirement, staying active in Penns Grove VFW post 8840, The National 4th Infantry Association and St Gabriel the Archangel Roman Catholic Parish. He also enjoyed: tending to his garden, cooking, polka dancing, playing the accordion, and seeing the country with wife of 54 years, Marian. Survived by his wife Marian and son Alex, nieces, nephews, and many cousins. He was predeceased by his father and mother, Jacob and Helen Cooker, brothers Michael Cooker (Carol), and James Cooker. Family and friends may attend graveside services at The Salem County Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Pilesgrove, NJ at 11:00 AM. Thursday the 28th of October. Due to Covid-19 the family ask that mask be worn.
