Russell “Rusty” W. Simpson, Jr. at the age of 49 passed away peacefully after a long illness on June 14, 2008 at the Cancer Treatment Centers of America, Philadelphia, PA. Rusty was born in Wilmington, DE and grew up in Penns Grove, NJ and was currently a resident of Pennsville, NJ. He was the son of the late Russell, Sr. and Florence Simpson and grandson of the late Arthur “Moose” and Eleanor “Peggy” Hudson and brother of the late Sharon Simpson. Rusty worked at 1 South, NJ Turnpike as a general manager for several years. He then worked for Pandrol in Bridgeport, NJ and later worked at Heinkel Filtering Systems, Bridgeport. He worked with a wonderful group of people that he considered family until his death. He attended Penns Grove High School, Class of 1976 and was a graduate of Salem County Vocational School as a machinist. Rusty received a Civilian Service Award presented by the Salem County Police Chiefs Association for assisting police officers with an arrest in Carneys Point. He was very giving of himself to others. He enjoyed woodworking, making such things as curio cabinets, bookcases, bars, and shelves. Some of his work was done for the Adult Day Program of Salem, NJ and for family and friends for whatever they wanted him to make. He took great pride in providing for his family and home. Rusty worked ever since he was 14 years old until a week before his death. Nothing was more important than his family and work. There was nothing he couldn’t fix in his home and on his cars. He loved Harley Davidson motorcycles. He will be forever missed and will always have a special place in everyone’s heart. Survived by his wife, Cindy, children, Larry L. Simpson of Boston, MA, Morgan B. Simpson of Pennsville, NJ and Jami L. Simpson of Pennsville, NJ, grandson, Jeremy Simpson, age 3 of Pennsville, NJ. His grandson was the light of his life. Jeremy would bring him home a drawing everyday from pre-school and give it to him to hang beside his bed. He is also survived by a sister, Cynthia Simpson and her son Reese of Carneys Point, three brothers, Arthur R. Simpson and his wife, Denise and family of L.A.C., Steven R. Simpson and his wife, Sherry and family of Inwood, WV and David J. Simpson and his wife, Renee and family of Texas, and his sister-in-law, Valery and her husband William and family of Carneys Point. He will be sadly missed by all, may you rest in peace. We love you. A viewing will be held Tuesday from 4 to 6 PM in the Ashcraft Funeral Home, 740 S.
