Mary Sierocinski

Mary Tighe Sierocinski, 87 of Carneys Point passed away on Wednesday, November 23, 2011 at her home. Born in Carneys Point on May 6, 1924, daughter of the late Jeremiah and Mary Flynn Scully (both immigrants from Ireland), Mary spent most of her life in the Carneys Point area. Graduating from St. James High School, Class of 1942, and Goldey Beacom Business School, Mary retired from DuPont – Chambers Works in 1982 with 40 years service. She spent 26 years in D&C Tech Lab with her tenure in the Control Supervisors office – she was promoted and transferred to Jackson Lab Management Division in 1976 where she remained until her voluntary retirement. Mary was a member of Corpus Christi RC Church, a lifetime member of the DuPont Pensioners, and avid donor to St. Anthony Guild since 1956. She was an avid reader, did crossword puzzles and was a crocheter of afghans which she called her labor of love and gave away to many relatives and friends about 40 in all. In her earlier years, raising two sons on her own, Mary’s life centered on her family, her faith and her home. Nothing pleased Mary more than having her family for holidays no matter what the occasion. Mary is survived by her husband of 29 years, Walter W. Sierocinski, two sons, Raymond Joseph Tighe of Elkton, MD, John Martin Tighe, Sr. of Glasgow, DE, a sister, Julia Tilton of Pennsville, three grandchildren, John Martin Tighe, Jr., Jacob Michael Tighe and Dorothy Tighe, six great grandchildren, Tori, Raymond, Georgeanne, Joshua, Kloi Tighe and Michele Richardson. Also tow nieces, Patricia Goss (Frank) and Debbie Bascelli (John) who is also her goddaughter, a cousin, Reverend Les Flynn, a missionary priest in Lagos, Nigeria and two special in laws, Jenny and Rowe Costello of Nortonville. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 AM Tuesday in St. Gabriel the Archangel Parish -Corpus Christi RC Church, 369 Georgetown Rd., Carneys Point where there will be a viewing from 10 to 11 AM. Interment will follow in Lawnside Cemetery, Pilesgrove. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a fund for Mary’s grandson, Jacob Michael Tighe who was born with muscular dystrophy and has been in a wheelchair most of his life, c/o John Tighe, Sr., 250 Emma Way, Newark, DE 19702.
