Doris Johnson

Doris May Johnson (nee Wilson) age 80 of Carneys Point passed away peacefully with her loving family at her side on Saturday, June 21, 2008. Born in Ohio on January 23, 1928, she resided in Carneys Point for over 75 years. She was the third of four children of the late Graham and Marie Morgan Wilson. She is survived by her two devoted sons and daughter-in-laws; Howard “Jody” Johnson, Jr. and Jodee of Carneys Point and Jeffery Johnson and Janice of Vineland, five precious grandchildren; Alisha and David Hunt of Logan, Calim Johnson, Kyle and Dana Johnson, all of Carneys Point, and Andrew and Bethany of Vineland, two great grandchildren; Cooper J. Hunt of Logan and Savannah Johnson of Carneys Point, and many nieces and nephews. Her sister Marie Lewis of Carneys Point also survives her. In 2005 she was predeceased by her loving husband of 58 years and former Carneys Point mayor, Howard J. Johnson, Sr. In addition to her parents, her brothers, George and Richard also predeceased her. Doris attended local Penns Grove schools and graduated from Penns Grove Regional High School (“Re-Hi”) in 1945. She devoted her life to family and friends and enjoyed being a housewife, making her own clothes, gardening and decorating. During her lifetime, Doris was actively involved in many community organizations. She was a member of the Salem County Board of Social Services, Penns Grove High School Personal Achievement Hall of Fame selection committee, Carneys Point Republican Club, and Bethel Bible Baptist Church. Since 1985 she served as an officer of Carneys Point Inc. (Village Arms Senior Citizens Complex) Board of Directors, serving as secretary and personnel committee chairperson. Doris will be deeply missed and remembered by her friends and family for her love of life and outgoing personality. She was a joy to be around and everyone who knew her loved her. She was a loyal and devoted friend who always tried to make the lives of those around her enjoyable and rewarding. Doris was truly a remarkable woman of character and was one of those people who made the world a better place by just being in it. Relatives and friends may call Tuesday evening from 7 to 9 PM and Wednesday from 10 to 11 AM in the Ashcraft Funeral Home, 47 State St., Penns Grove where funeral services will be held at 11 AM.
