Catherine Dolores Jones

Catherine Dolores (Zitkevitz) Jones, 74, a lifelong resident of Pennsville, NJ, went home to be with the Lord on March 22, 2015. She was born December 29, 1940 to loving parents Charles and Vera (Zimkouski) Zitkevitz. Catherine was a graduate of Regional High School and was known as a talented amateur artist. In her youth, she was an avid equestrian and enjoyed riding her cherished horse Buddy. She also loved to dance and could often be found with her sister Ronnie, cutting a rug at the Circle K and USO dances. Catherine was an operator at DuPont Chambers Works for fifteen years and retired from DuPont in 1992 while working at the Repauno plant. In her later life, Catherine frequently attended bingo events where she enjoyed spending time with her friends and making new bingo friends. Catherine was the beloved mother of seven children and will be remembered as a kind, caring, deeply loving, and generous woman by her family and those who knew her. Always charitable, she was a supporter of many charities, school events, local businesses and organizations. Her home on Sanford Road was the center of her family’s holiday festivities and she delighted in preparing amazing feasts around which her family would gather. One of Catherine’s favorite holidays was Halloween and she’d begin preparing weeks in advance. Every year children in Penn Beach would line up for her handmade candied apples, candy bars and other treats. Her love of entertaining was not limited to holidays and family and friends will fondly remember the many parties and summer barbeques she hosted. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Catherine is survived by her loving husband of 55 years, Preston E. Jones; daughters Debbie Hiner and husband Michael Deichelbor of Alloway, NJ, Sherry Jones of Pennsville, NJ; sons Preston Jones, Jr and wife Dawn of Alloway, Steven Jones and wife Cindy of Bear, DE; sister Donna M. Zitkevitz of Deepwater, NJ; brothers, Charles “Butch” Zitkevitz and wife Debbie of Pedricktown, NJ, Thomas E. Zitkevitz and wife Carol of Pennsville, NJ and many cousins, nieces and nephews, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is predeceased by her children Kelly Lynn Jones of Pennsville, Denise Renee (Jones) Bowers of Pennsville and Michael Robert Jones of Alloway; grandson David Michael Jones of Pennsville; parents Charles. L and Vera (Zimkouski) Zitkevitz of Deepwater; sister Veronica ( Zitkevitz) Porrini of Carney’s Point and brother Lawrence Zitkevitz of Deepwater. A viewing will be held Wednesday evening from 7 to 8:30 PM in the Ashcraft Funeral Home, 47 State St., Penns Grove. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 AM Thursday in St. Gabriel the Archangel Parish – Corpus Christi Church, 369 Georgetown Rd., Carneys Point. Interment will follow in Lawnside Cemetery, Pilesgrove.
