Barbara J. Davenport

Barbara J. (Trader) Davenport, a lifelong resident of Salem County, passed away on April 25th, 2023, at the age of 86. Barbara is survived by her loving husband Larry of 39 years, her daughter Maureen Humphreys (Leigh), son Joseph Cardoso (Patricia), son Jack Cardoso (Bruny), stepchildren Shelly Talbot, Laurie Davenport, Nancy Callahan (Russell), April Davenport and 20 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren, siblings: Maurice Sonny Trader (Betty) and Jerry Jackson (Barbara). She was pre-deceased by her parents Maurice and Ethel Trader, her eldest son Robert Cardoso, Jr., and her siblings William Trader and Kenneth Trader. Barbara was born in the front room of her Grandparent's home at 43-45 S. DuPont Road in Carneys Point, New Jersey. She had a close relationship with her grandparents and inherited the property in the mid-1950's from her grandfather who adored her. Here is where she raised her four children as a single mother after her divorce in the early 1960's. The property remained with her until she sold it February 2021. She was in the class of 1954 of Penns Grove High School and was a long-time dedicated employee of A&P/Super Fresh Markets. Barbara had many friends and never met a stranger; she welcomed everyone. It was said that Barbara was a great combination of toughness and compassion, known for her straightforwardness. Yes, she was a very strong and caring woman who did her best to raise her children on her own as a single mother…that is until she met the love of her life Larry. On June 16, 1984, she married her love, Larry Davenport. They shared a wonderful life together, enjoyed traveling as well as cruising to many exciting destinations. She also enjoyed the many years and good times they spent as Seasonals at Cherrystone Campground in Virginia, fishing on their boat, hanging out by the pool, all the BBQ parties and just being with the many friends they made along the way there. She also enjoyed being with her husband at their beautiful home in Florida for the winter and then returning home to family in Carneys Point for the Spring/Summer. Most of all, she just loved being with her love Larry and surrounded by her family and friends. She will be truly missed. A visitation for family and friends will be held on Wednesday, May 3rd, 2023, at Ashcraft Funeral Home, 740 South Broadway Pennsville, NJ 08070 from 10-11 AM with a service at 11am.Burial will follow at Lawnside Cemetery in Pilesgrove, NJ.
